I recall an analysis by Benny Morris that the ordeal of Israel [ultimately important to him], and Palestine lay in what he considered "half-measures" as far as the ethnic cleansing of the Nakba in 1948, and the imposition of occupation after 1967. It follows, with all the rationality of Zionists for whom the, erm, uh, "population transfer" of the Greek-Turkish War (1.6 million people) by 1923 served as a model, that the territorial conquest of their Eretz Israel required just such a genocidal outburst as we are all presently witnessing. The plans were elaborated and carefully laid, and would coincide with a generalized regional war between Israel and her neighbors. But with Egypt and Jordan now signatories of peace settlements with the Israeli state, and Lebanon unwilling to provoke war--witness the "Dahiya doctrine" during 2006--and Syria Balkanized and mired in Civil War, this presented a dilemma to the "solution" of the Likudniks and settlers and ethnonationalists/ Jewish supremacists. So, the script was flipped. Instead, the genocide was initiated in order to provoke the massive region-wide war that these warmongers--seeking "total security"--demand. I think history will bear this out. The Israeli bombing of an Iranian diplomatic post in Damascus, violating international law--again!--will provoke the war with Iran that Netanyahu has sought for over 20+ years. Morris is the same sort of nationalist historian for whom history is a source of grievances and nationalist claims as Niall Ferguson is for enthusiasts of Empire, imperial control, racism, war, aggrandizement. Of course the chickenshit Morris doesn't want to discuss his ouvre with Norman Finkelstein!

Iran has been "just weeks away" from having the nuclear bomb(s), and some buffoon(s) is talking about how "[r]ealistic leaders in Washington and Jerusalem cannot allow Teheran to have the Bomb. And, in the coming months or year, must do what is necessary to halt and destroy the Iranian nuclear project." The coming "months or year?" A little late to the party? Or "in the coming days and weeks?" Is that in World War III or World War IV?

And now a day later, we have the Iranian armed forces retaliation against the Israeli attack on a consulate in Damascus...

The Iranians state cited Art. 51 of the UN Charter, and the Israeli violation of international law (again!) ca. 1961-1963. The IDF is calling it "victory" because the USAF, RAF, Jordanian AF, and the Israeli military shot down some huge proportion of the drones and cruise missiles. The USA is crowing similar, having spent over a billion--perhaps way over a billion--on all the anti-missile missiles it expended on Israel's behalf. Supposedly--who really knows?--Biden, or his handlers, told Bibi Netanyahu to treat it as a "win" and to "take the win" but the Israeli media appears to be fulminating for a full-scale counter-strike to the intolerable breaching of their air defenses and striking a pair of air bases... I don't think Bibi can really stand the idea that his decades-long-sought war with Iran is to be stymied now that shots have been fired in anger, so look to an insane escalation and provocation. While the pundits and propagandists look to the war with Iran between the U.S. and its Western militarist allies the UK and France, and who knows? Maybe even Germany what with the Israeli state part of the Federal Republic's _Staatsraison_, the Israelis will hasten their genocide of Gaza and probably move to greatly increase/ wholesale outright expulsions of Palestinians from the occupied territories in the West Bank. I really, really, hope I'm wrong, but this is the ramifications of what IDF generals and Israeli Likudniks and so on take away from Benny Morris: "Palestinians just simply irrationaly hate Jews, my own findings on Zionist emphasis on, ahem, 'transfer' and ethno-nationalism be damned..." "Palestinians started the intra-comunal phase of the 1948 War," "The Arabs started the 1948 War and lost, so conquest fair and square..." and "The Nakba was a half-measure, and should have been more thorough." So now, as openly admitted by Israeli politicos, "Nakba 2.0." Just ghastly. And the USA is fully responsible/ partner.

Is Israeli "retaliation" for Iranian "retaliation" going to fully assume the proportions of an invasion of Lebanon again?

I doubt Israel would mount ground invasion of Iran. More like it will test the last edifices of the MAD-based old world order, hopefully not to the point of their Samson Option.

I don't think anyone, at least in their right mind?, would favor a land war with Iran... But sanctions, blockades, air strikes, missiles, etc. etc. with the USA doing the "heavy lifting" while the IDF/IOF assails southern Lebanon while Israel hastens the genocide of Palestine is a real fear. And the "Samson Option"... I think that anything resembling a 2-state solution, let alone a single secular state might well bring that about at this point? Chilling.

Somehow I’m a believer in the unexpected here… in a good way.

By “their Samson option” I of course meant Israel.

Damn… there are others in the world, contrary to what Israeli, American, and European supremacists believe. Tell that to Benny Morris!

You can wipe the spittle off the side of your mouth now, Norm.

The Jews successfully completed an apprenticeship in genocide under Nazi Germany during World War 2. The Jews learned their lessons well, and are applying them to great effect in Gaza, especially the one where no one really cares about the death of a whole people. Nobody.

When approximately 6-million Jews were "cleansed from the slate" in World War 2 and today, almost 80-years later, 20-percent of the world population believes the Holocaust never took place, then genocide is "okay." Further genocide is inevitable.

The precedent was set. Nobody nuked the German people who allowed Adolf Hitler to come to power -- even though that was yet another regime change operation by the West.

In 1919, the West made the creation of Nazi Germany inevitable. In 1947, the West did it again, by creating a state where one already existed in Israel (oops, Palestine).

The "single state solution" made Gaza inevitable. Genocide was inevitable. Is genocide in Israel being dealt with any differently now than it was in 1945? Nuremberg was like the police showing up long after the crime had been committed -- and way, way, way after the fact.

Most don't even know how to spell "Nuremberg." Just another loser, another victim.

And what about Russia under Joseph Stalin? The purges there make the Holocaust look like a hit and run.

This thing about history repeating itself get really boring. Even rhyming, my eyes glassed over just writing about this mess. Mark Twain once commented about how sometimes he wished "Noah and his party had missed the boat." Like an enema, the whole world needs a good nuking.
